AI/ML progress in state and local government

When it comes to assisting state, county, and local governments in improving citizen services, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are making significant strides forward.

In this executive video panel, Aaron Judy, Chief of Innovation and AI at the Maricopa County Clerk of the Superior Court, and Howard Lock, AI and Machine Learning Business Development at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), discuss the practical examples of how AI and ML are being put to work to speed up the work that supports public service. Aaron Judy is the Chief of Innovation and AI at the Maricopa County Clerk of the Superior Court. Howard Lock is the AI and Machine Learning Business Development at Hewlett Packard Enterprise (

Judy explains how the Maricopa County Superior Court is beginning to use artificial intelligence to its document processing processes in order to eliminate the need for human workers to scan, sort, and barcode documents. In the video, he discusses a number of additional initiatives, including the following one: “Instead of going to our website and talking, you [will be able to] actually call and speak naturally to our virtual assistants,” he says.

Lock brings to light more extensive applications of AI in the state, county, and municipal levels of governance.

“Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly widespread, and when paired with the Internet of Things, it has the potential to become a highly potent force for pushing Smart City solutions that make the lives of inhabitants far more improved and significantly easier. “They are able to deliver significantly improved skills for maintaining public safety,” he continues.

Both executives offer counsel to leaders in the public sector on important factors to consider before integrating AI and ML into government operations.
